Chocolate Revel Bars

These delicious dessert bars are hearty, sweet and bound to make you go back for seconds.

1 c butter or margarine
2 c packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 c all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
3 c quick-cooking rolled oats
1 14oz can (1-1/4 c) sweetened condensed milk
1 12oz package (2 c) semisweet chocolate pieces
1 c chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

1. Set aside 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine and beat the remainder in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer, on medium speed, for 30 seconds. Beat in brown sugar until well mixed, then add eggs and 2 tablespoons of vanilla. In another large bowl, stir together flour and baking soda; stir in oats. Gradually stir dry mixture into beaten mixture. Set aside.

2. In a medium saucepan, combine the remaining 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, sweetened condensed milk, and chocolate pieces. Cook over low heat until chocolate melts, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. Stir in walnuts and 2 teaspoons vanilla.

3. Press two-thirds (approx. 3-1/3 c) of oat mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 15x10x1 inch baking pan. Spread chocolate mixture over the oat mixture. Using your fingers, dot remaining oat mixture over the chocolate.

4. Bake for 25 minutes, or until top is lightly browned (chocolate mixture will still look moist). Cool on a wire rack. Cut into 2×1 squares. Enjoy!
